Miss Clara is five and half months old. A couple of my friends have just had babies and, looking at those teeny tiny little ones, I can hardly believe that Clara was that little only five months ago! In one way, time has flown by, but at the same time, it seems like she's always been with us. Time (especially once you have babies) is such a strange thing.
Clara is an absolute delight. For the most part, she is an easy, easy baby. But she also knows what she likes (and what she doesn't) and she's not afraid to make that known.
She is the happiest of babies. Like her sister at this age, she has a smile for everyone. And her smile is ridiculous--so full of life, so pudgy, so sweet. She has huge, bright, blue eyes that capture your heart and two chubby little dimples that melt it. She smiles with a wide open mouth and wiggles her whole body when she does.
Mommy is still her favorite person so far, but big sister Marie is nearly edging me out at this point. She watches Marie's every move. She thinks she is hilarious and giggles heartily when Marie plays peek-a-boo or does other silly things. If she hears Marie's voice, she whips her head around to see where she is and what she is doing.
Clara is happiest on Mommy's hip, but doesn't mind being put down to play or sitting in her bunny seat to watch the happenings of the day. The only time she's not content is when she is very tired or in the evenings just before bed. Otherwise, she's a bundle of joy.
She has a tiny bit of soft, fuzzy hair. She has no teeth, but chews on her (whole) hand and toys so vigorously that an incredible river of drool drips out of her mouth at most hours of the day, so we are expecting some to pop through soon. She rolled from front to back one time, and apparently that was enough for her... She pushes herself way up on her arms and pulls her butt up like she's getting ready to crawl. She talks and coos and yells and giggles and blows lots and lots of spit bubbles. When she was littler, she had very sensitive skin and had a lot of heat rash and some eczema, but that has pretty much all cleared up and her skin is so soft and smooth and perfect to kiss. My absolute favorite place to kiss her is her pudgy little cheeks, just below her ears. Speaking of pudgy... she's definitely got some rolls! Marie was never quite so filled out, but we are loving Clara's double chin and rolly polly thighs. The other day Marie exclaimed, "Hi Chunk! I call her Chunk!" We laughed heartily, but are trying to stop that nickname in its tracks. But she is obviously a nursing champ and she can't wait to start solids. She's starting to swipe food right out of my hand. We will start her on solids in three weeks or so, when we get back from vacation.
Overall, Clara is such a sweet, sweet, sweet little love. I cannot imagine life without her. She adds such joy to our family and we all cherish her lovable, easy-going, smiley little presence.
